Gutter Installation Cost: Per Foot, by Material, Whole House
Gutters are priced by the linear foot, and the spread between vinyl and copper is more than three to one. Pick a material and length to see the range.

Installed rates. Labour is assumed at half the variable cost; that split is our planning assumption, not a published figure. Removal of old gutters is not included.
What gutters cost, material by material
Installed prices per linear foot, and what each material comes to for a 200 foot house — the size Fixr uses for its whole-home figures.
| Material | Per linear foot | Whole house (200 ft) |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium | $7 – $13 | $1,467 – $2,668 |
| Steel | $7 – $12 | $1,344 – $2,445 |
| Vinyl (PVC) | $5 – $10 | $1,044 – $1,900 |
| Zinc | $16 – $29 | $3,192 – $5,808 |
| Copper | $18 – $32 | $3,491 – $6,352 |
| Wood | $17 – $31 | $3,384 – $6,157 |
Vinyl is the cheapest and the shortest-lived. Copper and zinc cost three to four times as much and outlive the roof they drain. Aluminium is the middle path and the most common choice for a reason.
The charge most quotes leave out
Replacing gutters is not the same job as installing them on a new house, because the old system has to come down first.
Removal runs $1.31 to $2.38 per linear foot. On 200 feet that is $262 to $476 that has to appear somewhere in the quote.
Ask explicitly whether removal and disposal are included. A quote that is exactly the same for a replacement as for a new install is a quote with a surprise in it.
Downspouts and the parts nobody prices
Downspouts are a separate line, at $7.43 to $13.51 per linear foot. A one-storey house needs less than a two-storey one, which is why the number of storeys changes a gutter quote.
Gutter guards typically add a few hundred dollars. Heat tape runs about $5 per linear foot plus installation, and matters in cold states where ice dams form.
By size
We price gutters by length, because that is how they are sold. The six most common lengths each have their own page.
What it costs in six states
Material does not change at the state line. Labour does. These are the same 250 ft job priced with six different wage markets.
| State | Labour factor | Low | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oklahoma | ×0.79 | $1,812 | $3,151 |
| Kentucky | ×0.84 | $1,864 | $3,246 |
| West Virginia | ×0.92 | $1,930 | $3,370 |
| New Hampshire | ×1.08 | $2,066 | $3,624 |
| New Jersey | ×1.38 | $2,330 | $4,113 |
| Illinois | ×1.40 | $2,351 | $4,152 |
Only the labour line moves. That is a stated limitation of this model, not an oversight.
Frequently asked
Are seamless gutters worth the extra?
Seamless gutters are cut on site to the length of each wall, so there are fewer joints and fewer leaks. They cost more up front and are harder to repair in sections.
How often should gutters be replaced?
Twenty years for vinyl and aluminium, longer for steel, and 50 to 100 years for copper and zinc. Clogging kills more gutters than corrosion does.
Does gutter size matter?
K-style is the standard and the cheapest because it is the most widely made. Half-round costs more and holds less water of the same width, but is easier to clean.
